Cassandra Cárdenas, mezzo-soprano, regularly creates new classical music experiences. As a Teaching Artist with Arizona Opera’s OperaTunity troupe, she brought the story of Rusalka to thousands of elementary school students. In summer 2018, she created the title role of Lorelai (William Clay) with Arizona Chamber Opera. Previous premiers include leading roles in chamber operas Mignon (also by Clay), The Necklace (Thomas Conroy), and OperAntics (Dorothy Gaynor).

 

In spring 2019, Cassandra returns to Arizona Opera in La Traviata and Le Nozze di Figaro. Previous season credits include Madama Butterfly, Rusalka, Carmen, Don Giovanni, Falstaff, La Bohème, Eugene Onegin, and Die Zauberflöte. On the concert stage, Cassandra has performed several mezzo soloist roles including Verdi's Requiem, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9  and Mass in C, Tchaikovsky’s Ode to Joy Cantata, and Mendelssohn’s Elijah.

 

Cassandra earned a Master of Music degree with honors from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music and holds a Bachelor of Music degree from Arizona State University.
